Your Questions, Answered.

Straight answers from Steven Luttrell, creator of the HLC Hair System, who wears one himself.

Getting started

Is the HLC Hair System surgery?

No. It's completely non-surgical hair replacement for men and women. No procedures, no recovery time.

Will anyone be able to tell?

That's the whole point. Every HLC Hair System is custom made, and I personally check that the density, color and texture match you before it ever goes on your head.

Do you wear one yourself?

Yes. I lost my hair too, and I wear my own HLC Hair System every day. I would never put anything on a client that I wouldn't wear myself.

Do you work with women?

Yes. For thinning or fine hair I offer custom HLC Toppers and Extension Integration, blended with your own hair and color-matched. I also offer hair extensions on their own if you just want length or volume. See women's options.

What happens at a private consultation?

It's one-on-one, in my private Jupiter studio or virtually. We talk about your hair loss, your lifestyle and what you want, and I show you your options. No waiting room, no pressure.

Where are you located?

351 S. US-1, Suite #121, Jupiter, FL 33477. I serve Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington, Boca Raton, Tequesta, Port St. Lucie, Vero Beach and the Treasure and Gold Coasts. After 30 years in Fort Lauderdale, I kept the same number: 954-525-1234.

Living with your hair system

How long does a hair system last?

Typically 4 to 8 weeks. How long yours lasts depends on your lifestyle and how you care for it: how often you wash it, how much you swim or work out, and the products and heat you use. I'll show you how to get the most out of every one.

How often should I wash my hair system?

It depends on your lifestyle, how much you work out or swim, the climate, and how your body chemistry treats the adhesive. Here in humid South Florida that matters. The general rule: the less you shampoo, the longer your system and its hair stay in great shape, because every wash fades the color and can loosen the hair.

Glue or tape: which is better?

It depends on your skin, your lifestyle and our South Florida humidity. I walk every client through the pros and cons and pick what holds best for you. Watch my Glue or Tape video for the full breakdown.

Should I air dry or blow dry?

A blow dryer gives you the most styling control, but the heat is harder on the hair. Air drying is gentler, with fewer styling options. Either way, never go to bed with your hair system wet. Whatever your pillow does overnight is what it will look like in the morning.

What styling products should I use?

Lighter, water-soluble products are best, because you can refresh them with a little water for several days. Heavy "hurricane-proof" sprays and gels build up and attract dirt, which means more washing and faster wear.

My hair system is tangled after washing. What do I do?

Be gentle and lightly towel dry so it's not dripping. Spray in a leave-in detangler, give it a minute, then brush from the ends and work your way in, changing directions as you go. Finish with a wide-tooth comb, and never rush it.

Can I swim, work out and golf in it?

Yes. It's built for an active South Florida life, from the gym to the pool to the golf course. I'll show you how to care for it so it stays looking its best.
